Constancia de la Mora

Constancia de la Mora was a voice for the Spanish Republic abroad; her compelling 1939 autobiography published in the US (In Place of Splendor) follows a life that begins in shallow privilege and grows into a humane and feminist commitment reflecting Spaiin's own evolution into the Second Republic. And yet, instead of remaining a heroine of the Republic, Constancia de la Mora's memory somehow faded: Professor Soledad Fox Maura of Williams College has recovered that memory, filled in many of the gaps and tells another compelling story of a life hitherto untold.
