In today's "North By Southwest", Nicolas Jackson travels 13,000 kilometres to Manila to visit the National Musuem of The Philippines where a Spanish exhibition celebrating the 5th centenary of the discovery of the Pacific Ocean by Vasco Núñez de Balboa is proving a major draw for visitors. The exhibition, which opened its doors simultaneously in Manila and Seville, charts the history of the ocean routes that transformed the Pacific into a means of communication, enabling people, trade, culture and ideas to travel back and forth between hitherto unconnected worlds. We talk to Elvira Marco, director of Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), organisers of the exhibition, and to Dr Ana Labrador, assistant director of the National Musuem of The Philippines. Consult the exhibition catalogue at www.accioncultural.es (17/12/13).
