CHARACTERS:
Michelle Jenner is Isabel I of Castile. Isabella the Catholic was an infanta, princess and later queen of Castile. Born in 1451, in Avila, she was the daughter of John II of Castile and Isabella of Portugal.
She is very close to her younger brother, Alfonso of Castile, and when her father died, when she was only three years old, her half-brother Henry IV ascended to the throne, with whom she had for years an ambivalent relationship of affection and hatred. Her soul friend is Beatriz de Bobadilla, lady of her mother's entourage and daughter of the mayor of Arévalo, where she grew up, and where her mother lived in seclusion after suffering an attack of madness.
Isabel is kind, strong, intelligent and eloquent. She had an intense religious spirit and great self-control. In short distances, she can be tender and compassionate with those who love her or are around her. But on a large scale, Elizabeth would not bow to anyone or anything that would stand in the way of her monarchical goals. She is religious and a defender of moral values that, many times, she does not see reflected in the representatives of the Church.
Rodolfo Sancho is Ferdinand II of Aragon. Prince of Aragon and King of Sicily. Born in Sos in 1452, he was the son of Juan II of Aragon and husband of Isabella of Castile. He became king of Aragon, Sicily, Naples and Castile under the name of Ferdinand V.
With a gallant presence and smiling face, between Ferdinand and Isabella there are many similarities. The parents and half-brothers of both were rivals and, in addition, both are children of the second wife of a king. From his childhood, he was brought up in wars and politics. In wars he risked his life in multiple situations, which made him a brave man and an expert in fighting and commanding troops. Elizabeth's solo coronation was probably the biggest crisis between the two.
He is stingy, at home and in government. His chess, chessboard or ball-playing facet does not please his contemporaries either, who think that he devotes more time to the game than he should. But there is one defect much more serious than the others: his lust.
While he is a man of action, he is also a good politician and a born negotiator, as well as a very convincing communicator. However, he is inflexible in his decisions and cruel if he deems it necessary to be so. Ferdinand has adapted very well to the customs of the Castilian court, although he comes and goes from Aragon to support his father in all his ventures.
