CHARACTERS:
Bruno Sierra, played by Miguel Ángel Solá:
Months have passed since the resolution of the Patricia Marcos case. Sierra has been promoted to captain and is now the head of the Crimes Against Persons Group of the Central Operative Unit of the Civil Guard. From this unit, and in collaboration with other departments and territorial units, he investigates homicides, kidnappings, extortions and, of course, disappearances.
His commitment to certain values clashes with bureaucracy and when that happens, he cannot betray them. He is able to see what no one else sees inside the victims and the guilty. He gets inside their environment and understands people, comforts them and unmasks them. As an investigator, he has no doubt that his priorities are always on the side of those who suffer, those who have been kidnapped and the families who cry. Although he always struggles to contain it, Sierra cannot resist emotion, and the strength that sustains him after nights in which he sleeps 45 minutes with one eye and 11 with the other, is his tremendous empathy with the victims.
He is not a desk person, he likes movement and the street. But his realm belongs to the interrogation room. It is there, in the short distance between him and the witness, between him and the culprit, that Sierra becomes a predator, cornering the suspect until he is torn to shreds. His expertise in "the lying" is legendary, and produces, throughout the series, moments of brilliant dramatic intensity. Outside of work, Sierra struggles to exist as a father, but doesn't always succeed. Divorced, and estranged from his youngest daughter, his teenage daughter moves into his apartment at the beginning of the series, creating additional problems for this lone wolf who never manages to have “more than ice in the fridge.”
Julia Guzmán, played by Ana Torrent:
She is the first female officer of the Civil Guard, a male job by tradition. Her vocation comes from her family: she is the daughter of a colonel, now deceased, who did not accept Julia's entry into the force.
She has many traits in common with Sierra and that hurts. For example, she also puts her profession before her family. Although they have known each other for 10 years, their relationship has been strictly professional. Until now, Julia and Sierra have to work together. She has risen through the ranks to become a commander, the rank immediately above Sierra's, and is perhaps the person who suffers most from the captain's peculiar way of dealing with cases. Between them there is a permanent tug-of-war.
Laura Andrún, played by Esther Ortega:
A regular collaborator of Sierra's in the Civil Guard's Missing Persons Group, she now returns to the Central Operative Unit's Crimes Against Persons Group.
Like Sierra, viewers will remember her from "Desaparecida". Laura is the team member who knows Sierra best, whom she has learned to admire and from whom she considers herself a disciple. It is Sierra who, upon joining the Central Unit as captain, recruits her for the group, creating some unease among the rest of her team. In a unit where men and women are measured by the same yardstick, Laura, like Julia, feels she has to constantly prove that she is up to the task, and to this end she is very demanding of herself. She calls a spade a spade and if she doesn't like something, she says so. If she is asked for her opinion, she gives it with sincerity, courage and clarity, no matter who it hurts. Laura comes from a family of civil guards. With an impeccable career before being murdered by the terrorist group ETA, her father, Lieutenant Colonel Andrún, was an admired person within the Corps.
