TO SERVE AND PROTECT

Long Running Series - Police Drama / Suspense

S7 - 1.372 x 50'

'To serve and protect' (the motto of police forces in many countries) deals with the day-to-day life in the police station of a working-class neighborhood that has been declining. This daily series focuses on cases that are no less crucial to the lives of the people involved because they are small on the criminal scale, allowing us to put the spotlight on conflicts of a social nature.

Current and fully recognizable problems related to immigration, lack of resources, gender violence, problems between neighbors, custody, evictions, assaults or petty crimes of drug trafficking mark the daily life of our agents.

But, in addition, there are labor conflicts and relationships among the members of the police station: love, envy, rivalries, power and authority struggles...

The beginning of the series starts with the strange case of disappearance of illegal immigrants living in the neighborhood.

Faced with this case, senior police officers ask Bremón and Miralles to carry out an investigation to find out what is happening. Miralles takes the opportunity to make a move and incorporate Alicia Ocaña, a brilliant policewoman whom she had as a student at the academy and who stands out for her investigative and interrogation skills, into the police station.

Alicia's arrival at the police station as the new Chief Inspector comes as a cold shower, as Bremon expected that this position would go to Sergio, his friend and confidant at the police station, who was waiting for the promotion. This leads to the formation of two opposing sides. On one side: Bremon, Sergio and Guevara; and on the other: Miralles and Alicia.

As if that were not enough, Guevara loses his temper during the interrogations and is accused of assaulting several suspects related to the case. This puts the media spotlight on the police station, which is usually far from the headlines, forcing the spokesperson to work hard in the face of press harassment and, to top it all off, an Internal Affairs investigation is launched.

Everything takes an unexpected turn when Rober's brother, Jairo Batista, is implicated in the disappearances, something that will shake Rober and Alicia, and also fuels the confrontations in the police station by once again putting the credibility of the police in check.

From here on, the investigation into the disappearances will become entangled as they find clues that point to a network of organ trafficking and smuggling in the heart of the neighborhood. In addition, the personal relationships between the police officers will also mark not only the development of the investigations, but also the day to day of the office, the relationships between the different teams, and the police work itself.

MAIN CHARACTERS

Claudia Miralles

The veteran Miralles is, without a doubt, the best police officer in the station. She knows how to ask, listen and deduce, so she is able to understand the motivations of even the worst criminals. Miralles comes from difficult times in the guild, when the presence of women in the police force was totally rejected. Although commissioner Bremón has the stripes and the office, Claudia Miralles is the highest moral authority in the police station, the real "Chief".

Despite his courage and bravery, Miralles is a sensitive and sentimental person. Within the police station, she has a special friendship with the conflictive and always criticized policeman Elías Guevara. She is married to Antonio Torres, one of the doctors at the neighborhood health center, and they have a daughter, Olga, who is currently studying a cooking course abroad. The whole police station feels respect and admiration for the great Claudia Miralles.

Emilio Bremón

Intelligent, efficient, attractive and charismatic. Commissioner Emilio Bremon embodies the ideal image of what, a priori, a Spanish policeman should be in the 21st century. But the truth is that Bremon is not a policeman by vocation, far from it. In fact, he is more of a politician than a policeman, and his forte is to deliver results with brilliant statistics and speeches.

An effective administrator, wherever he goes he always manages to improve crime statistics, police complaints, citizen service, the public image of the Corps... and not only does he achieve this, but he also ensures that it is reported in the press.

Recently widowed, he has found himself at the South District police station and is very happy in his job.

Alicia Ocaña

Alicia Ocaña joins the police station as an inspector just out of the Police Academy, where she has been an exemplary student and graduated at the top of her class. Her first hours at the police station will not be easy, especially because the young woman suspects that one of her now colleagues has something to do with the mysterious death of her mother, which happened a few weeks ago.

Alicia's father is in a deep depression after the accident that took his wife's life. Alicia tries her best to cheer him up, although, for the moment, she does not succeed. In the midst of this situation, Sergio Mayoral, a young and ambitious lawyer who had a relationship with Alicia in the past when they were university classmates, joins the law firm of Mr. Ocaña.

Rober Batista

He is a young police officer who has only been in the force for a short time. It took him a long time to pass the exam, as studies are not his thing, although he was the best in the physical tests. He comes from a troubled neighborhood and a lower-class family of gypsy ethnicity, and many are surprised that he is on the side of the police and not the criminals, something that many of his friends joke about. It was precisely the adolescence he lived, surrounded by bad company, which made him choose the side of “the good guys”, after flirting with theft, small-scale drug trafficking and some minor crimes for which they never managed to charge him, he decided he preferred to be on the side of those who put the handcuffs instead of those who wear them.

What he has not lost is his viscerality, his indomitable and impulsive personality that causes him problems when it comes to obeying orders and assuming authority, nor his privileged contacts in almost all areas of the underworld. Batista is individualistic and tends to go his own way, which is why he does not have many friends in the police station. When he gets Alicia as a partner, he will try by all means to “get rid of her”.

He has a relationship with Emma, but little by little his feelings will be shaken with the arrival of Alicia and the complicity that arises between them, which will lead them to go beyond the barrier of simple coworkers.

Antonio Torres

Husband of Claudia Miralles. Family doctor at the neighborhood health center. Antonio knows his neighbors as well as Claudia does. In a sense, he knows them better, since his office often becomes a confessional. If Antonio had gone into private medicine, he would have earned more money, but he is a doctor by vocation. He feels that his work is important in the neighborhood and has never considered going elsewhere or retiring. Both, Claudia and Antonio, love their professions, but that has never been an obstacle in their relationship as a couple.

María López

She is the owner of La Parra, the bar next to the police station. The policemen frequent her place and hold her in high esteem. In fact, sometimes Maria becomes a discreet sentimental advisor to the younger officers who see in her a good and wise friend. Maria is an enterprising woman who arrived in Madrid 12 years ago from a provincial town, leaving behind an unhappy marriage.

After working as a waitress in different establishments, she ended up becoming the owner of La Parra bar when the previous owner decided to retire and sold the bar to her. Thus, Maria achieved her dream of becoming her own boss. Thanks to the sympathy and good work of the woman, "La Parra" is living one of its best moments commercially speaking.

After much to-ing and fro-ing with Elías, he and María manage to stabilize their relationship. Paty, who now helps him at La Parra, is his great confidant.

Espe Beltrán

Espe is the joy of the police station. Extroverted and friendly, she was the first image that the citizen saw as soon as he entered the police station, since she was in the Citizen Service area. Subsequently, she was promoted to be in charge of UFAM, dealing with different crimes related to gender violence.

In love, she had a relationship with Karim, a former ITU inspector who was eventually posted to the Hague and a very special relationship with Fede, a roommate and police officer, who was murdered, during the investigation of the Southern District strangler case. A case that touched Espe very closely, and affected her for a long time.

Fernando Quintero

In the neighborhood, anyone with a problem knows where to go: to Fernando Quintero. Transportes Quintero, his company, is an institution in the area, providing jobs for many neighbors and sponsoring the local soccer team as well as providing funds for the inauguration of the new library or the Civic Center. But Quintero was not always the respected citizen he is today.

As a young man, when he was starting his business, Fernando Quintero was imprisoned for transporting a stash of hashish in one of his vans. Quintero himself does not hide this past and says he accepts it as a youthful mistake. However, there is no shortage of people in the neighborhood who believe Quintero is still involved in criminal activities. The reality is that Quintero has long been a major drug trafficker who controlled the entire southern route. However, his confrontation with Colombian narco Somoza, the traumatic death of his right-hand man Jairo, and the discovery that Alicia Ocaña was his biological daughter, made him rethink his life.

Quintero decides to leave his mafia past behind and collaborates with the CNI to catch Somoza. After redeeming himself, he becomes the honest and respected businessman he always appeared to be, and rebuilds his life with Maica. However, Maica's traumatic death will bring down all the pillars on which Quintero had built his new life. Destroyed, Quintero is in danger of repeating the mistakes of the past.

Paty Fernández

At 18, she is a fun-loving, carefree girl full of birds in her head. She has been raised mainly by her mother, who all her life has been in charge of portraying her father as a bum, a party animal and irresponsible. A description that, in reality, is quite true. So when she turns 18, Paty, who barely knows her father from occasional encounters, decides she wants to get to know him without intermediaries, so she goes to live with him. Although they will clash at first, both will see that they actually have a lot in common. When she returns to Distrito Sur, she is hired at La Parra to help Maria.

Toni's arrival will put his friendship with Olga in check, as they both discover that they like the young policeman. Toni and Paty start dating until he cheats on her with her best friend. After this hard blow, Paty is able to forgive them. However, due to the impulsive character of both of them, it is going to be a relationship that will not cease to find potholes in its path.

Elías Guevara

Veteran policeman, of the "old school". He has never wanted to be a chief or have an office. He does not conceive police work without stepping on the street because he has always been an action guy. Having seen "everything" gives him a huge background and that makes him a great interrogator, although his lack of patience leads him to disciplinary problems more often than desirable.

Although jaded and burned out, Guevara is reluctant to retire because since his wife and son left him more than 10 years ago, work is the only thing that occupies his life. The departure of his wife and son soured the already conflictive character of Elías, which considerably increased his fondness for alcohol. It was Miralles, his best friend, who saved him from the abyss and, nowadays, Elías does not drink a drop of alcohol. There is a beautiful complicity between Miralles and Elías.

Having made peace with his son Israel, Guevara is a new and more sensitive man. He also tries to open up emotionally, especially with María, the waitress at La Parra, for whom he has feelings.

Nacha has managed to redirect all that energy to her job as a policeman. She is a lesbian and at first clashed head-on with her patrol partner, the veteran Elías Guevara. On the professional side, Nacha is a courageous officer who is not afraid of anything. This bravery attracts the attention of her colleagues and will also help her gain Elias' respect.
