Five years ago, two eleven-year-old girls, Ana and Lucia, disappeared in Monteperdido, a village surrounded by the lush nature of the Pyrenees. After an extensive search and unsuccessful attempts by the authorities to find them, the case was never solved. The townspeople, lifelong residents, newcomers... all were marked by the tragedy.

Now, 5 years later, one of the girls, Ana, has returned.

How have the five years of kidnapping affected her? Who is the man who has kept her locked up? Where is the other girl, Lucía? Is she still alive?

A team formed by Santiago Baín, a veteran policeman, Sara Campos, a young inspector, and the local sergeant, face a puzzle of secrets and lies that have marked the inhabitants of Monteperdido: Ana can say practically nothing about her captor, always hidden behind a mask.

The hunt for the monster among them will unleash a series of events where the truth becomes intertwined with the lives of the investigators themselves.

CHARACTERS:

SARA CAMPOS

36 years old. Deputy police inspector of the SAF and graduated cum laude in psychology. Despite her age, she has extensive experience in cases of child abduction and child abuse. This case will put her on the ropes and force the police to rethink her vocation. She is intelligent, dedicated, very professional and quite obsessive. Restless and stubborn, she suffers from insomnia and recurring nightmares come back to haunt her whenever overwork makes her unable to sleep. Sara is single and finds it difficult to manage personal relationships. Partly because she had a difficult childhood. She lacked the affection of her parents and, for years, she witnessed gender violence from her father, an abuser who beat her mother. Then, Sara's life crossed with Santiago's. From then on, he was her life. From then on, he was her protector and redirected her path until Sara became one of the best police officers in the Corps. Sara owes Santiago practically everything, but she rarely lets him see it. However, that traumatic past has left her with after-effects in the form of nightmares and anxiety crises. She has to take medication to avoid them.

SANTIAGO BAÍN

58 years old. Police inspector. A veteran. In fact, he was one of the founders of the first groups specialized in cases of family violence and minors. Many successful resolutions in this type of cases are due to him. He has dedicated his life body and soul to the National Police Corps, but the case of the two missing girls in Monteperdido will be one of the most difficult he has faced in his long career. He is methodical, calm and very cultured. He has no family, except for Sara, who is almost like his daughter to him. Sometimes, he finds it difficult to show affection, but he is understanding and generous. A good person. Although Santiago feels tired. That dark part of the human condition that he lives with day by day can sometimes be devastating. Maybe that's why Santiago has been getting closer to religion during the last few years.

VICTOR GAMERO

40 years old. Sergeant in command of the Civil Guard post in the village. His friendly character and his committed attitude with the small community of Monteperdido have earned him the sympathy and respect of his colleagues and neighbors. On the other hand, Monteperdido is a small village in the Aragonese Pyrenees where nothing ever happens, except for the terrible event that shook the valley five years ago, when two 11-year-old girls disappeared without a trace. Otherwise, Victor is the only one responsible for the law in a very quiet place, where the most important thing is to provide service and protection against snowstorms in winter and the usual overflows of the river Ésera when the rains come. There, the forces of nature remind the few inhabitants of the valley of their power every year. In fact, Victor lost his girlfriend in a flood that killed her. Since then, he has been trying to pull himself together in the company of his inseparable dog Nieve. The control of roads, the surveillance of forests and crops and the threat of poachers is his daily routine. But the appearance of Ana, one of the missing girls, will change his life.

ANA MONTRELL

16 years old. The missing girl who reappears after 5 years as a teenager. An apparently casual car accident triggers everything. Ana is found in a bad state next to a deceased driver -supposedly her captor- in a ravine near Monteperdido. From then on, everything is a mystery in the girl's life. After five years in a cell, with no contact with the outside world, Ana's personality is not like that of other girls her age. She is an alien in a world that is moving too fast and that she has difficulty recognizing. In addition, her memory lapses and fears suggest that she has lived through a hell that is difficult to understand. She returns to a broken reality and does not even know that her parents have separated. The relationship with them will be complicated. Over time, only Quim, Lucia's brother and Sub-Inspector Campos, will be able to get closer to her thoughts and emotions. Despite not being locked up, Ana will have to fight with many demons to become free again.
