CHARACTERS:
Jana Expósito (Ana Garcés)
Jana returns to the Promise to avenge her mother's death. She has become a survivor, she has learned through blows and disappointments and has forged a tough character: smart, efficient, hates men and distrusts human beings in general. She hates the rich and powerful and does not shy away from proving it to them. Everything will be complicated when she meets love for the first time, thanks to Manuel.
Her arrival at La Promesa Palace means for her to face old fears and ghosts. Now she sleeps under the same roof as the person who murdered her family. For Jana begins a new life in which she has to hide her true identity from everyone; but this is complicated by the untimely death of Tomas, the heir of the Marquises of Lujan, which places the suspicions of all the inhabitants of the palace on her.
Manuel Mendoza (Arturo Sancho)
The young and handsome Manuel is the first son of the Marquis of Lujan with his second wife, Cruz Ezquerdo, and what he likes least is to be in the palace. Manuel was never interested in the obligations and responsibilities derived from his family name, for that there was Tomás, his older half-brother and heir; so he has always lived carefree and free, and likes nothing better than to spend as much time as possible in his airplane taking to the skies. But the death of Tomás changes everything, as Manuel becomes the heir to the House of Luján, which implies many responsibilities and many more hours at La Promesa.
The only good thing about spending more time in the family home is... Jana. At a time when women were forbidden to drive, he is surprised to discover how eager Jana is to learn how to drive it, which fascinates him. He knows that this is an unrealistic idyll, social norms are clear, and Jana is a maiden, but he is ready to fight for her.
Cruz Ezquerdo (Eva Martín)
She is the second wife of the Marquis of Luján, but their relationship is far from happy, as Alonso has never come to love her as he loved Doña Carmen, his deceased first wife. Ambitious, cunning and unscrupulous, Cruz has never been able to stand Tomás and Catalina, the twin children from that first marriage; especially Catalina, who is the spitting image of her mother. Nothing would make Cruz happier than to get her out of the way, and for her and her children, Manuel and Leonor, to be the only family of the Lujan House and the heirs to all its privileges. To all her problems will join one more, Jana, apparently a simple maid with whom her son Manuel will fall in love.
Alonso Mendoza, the Marquis of Luján (Manuel Regueiro)
Alonso was devastated after the death of his first wife whom he loved so much, Carmen. To fill the void, he married Cruz, the perfect woman. But too much perfection is exhausting and although their relationship is not bad, it lacks the flame of love. You could say that Cruz is the opposite of Carmen; while Alonso's first wife was adventurous and well-traveled, Cruz wants to have everything tied up and sees no need to leave La Promesa. So Alonso is now, without realizing it, a prisoner in his own home. The Marquis is a fair, affable and attentive man. He likes to keep abreast of all things happening in the Marquisate and in the capital of the Kingdom. He is a bold man for business, even if that also brings him a lot of trouble. He is aware of the changes taking place in society and fears that if the nobility does not know how to adapt it is doomed to disappear, which always brings him arguments with Cruz.
Catalina Mendoza (Carmen Asecas)
Charming, nice, pleasant and tender, Catalina conveys a sense of weakness and sometimes insecurity, especially after the loss of her twin brother, with whom she always got along perfectly. Her candor and kindness have endeared her to almost everyone around her. Cruz thinks that the ideal place for Catalina, especially after the death of Tomás, is a convent where she can pray and meditate in peace, but the woman does not seem willing to follow her stepmother's advice. Catalina refuses to marry, as she would have to leave the land her mother loved so much. But her life will change completely the day she meets a woman with whom she will fall madly in love... and that love will be her undoing, for she will lose her father's favor.
Leonor Luján (Alicia Bercán)
The youngest daughter of the Marquises of Luján is a cheerful and carefree girl. She is vulnerable, but brave; proud but frightened; passionate but careful; melancholic but dreamy. She is the queen of gossip, there is nothing of the echoes of society that escapes her.
Since childhood she has been brought up to assume her social position and marry a nobleman to perpetuate the family lineage, but the murder of her half-brother Thomas is a heavy blow and a constant reminder that life is short. So Leonor, who has always been a restless and passionate girl, gives free rein to those feelings that she has read a thousand times in romantic novels, and begins to live a forbidden love, which could end the young man's career and Cruz's dreams of marrying her to a wealthy and titled duke... If it is discovered that she is no longer a virgin.
Curro Ezquerdo (Xavi Lock)
Curro is a grumpy guy whose only intention in life is to be part of the Luján family. Since he was a child, he lives between La Promesa and La Pardina, the home of his mother, who is said to have lost her mind when the boy was born. Every time Curro admits his mother to a sanatorium for a new outbreak, he goes to La Promesa. Curro is secretly in love with Leonor, his cousin. They have been thick as thieves since they were little and they understand each other perfectly. He is jealous of everything Leonor desires and obsessed with pleasing and pleasing her. Curro will not stand the presence of Jana in La Promesa, that brazen and much more argumentative woman than she should. And there is something broken in him since he was a child, because he is not Eugenia's son and that secret, carefully kept for years, is about to see the light and change his life forever.
Jimena de los Infantes (Paula Losada)
Daughter of the Dukes of the Infantes, she has always been raised in a bubble, surrounded by governesses and maids who indulged her whims. Her mother has been in charge of repeating to her since she was a child what her role in life was: to marry well with a nobleman. And indeed, thanks to her mother, she met Tomás Mendoza, the handsome heir to the House of Luján; and both families soon formalized the marriage of convenience.
Jimena's only wish is that Tomas treat her with respect, but everything changes when Tomas dies. Jimena becomes a widow, despite having been married for only a few hours, and it is up to her to take over the helm of his life. However, Cruz, who does not want to lose the favor of the Dukes of the Infantes, forces the love between Manuel and the recent widow. Although she rejects him at first, Jimena soon falls in love with Manuel and, advised by Cruz, begins her conquest. Little by little Jimena will learn of Cruz's wicked arts and from appearing to be a modest and modest girl, she will become a dangerous woman.
Pía Adarre (María Castro)
The new housekeeper at La Promesa is affectionate, close and strict, because that is what protocol dictates. Despite having more than enough gifts for the job, she is having a hard time; there are many peculiarities and customs of La Promesa, and she does not quite get the reins of the palace correctly. And to this is added a terrible discomfort that has been bothering her for some time. The Marquise's father was infatuated with her from the very first moment. She tried to do everything possible to avoid it, but finally the Baron made a pass at her and forced himself on her, forcing her to become pregnant. Since that day, Pia lives terrified every time she is in his presence and she does not want any inopportune act to end her employment at La Promesa.
Mauro Moreno (Antonio Velázquez)
Mauro always assumed that his role in this life was to take up his father's legacy as a day laborer, reproduce and die years later. But a twist of fate gives him the opportunity to serve as a valet to the marquis himself. Reserved and introverted, he is always there for the job but no one knows anything about his personal life outside of La Promesa.
Everything explodes the day Leonor, the youngest of the Mendoza family, kisses him. His life, always anodyne, is immersed in the extraordinary: an affair with Miss Leonor. Although this love is not without danger, in the case of discovery he would lose his job, and could end up in jail. And, as if that were not enough, the arrival of a new maid is about to collapse his dream; and the newcomer is his girlfriend.
