The 240-minute first season immerses viewers in the voyage of these intrepid sailors into the unknown. A near-impossible mission to find a new route to "the spice islands". 239 sailors set sail on 20 August 1519. Three years later, only 18 returned in the only ship to survive the adventure.

As the plot unfolds, the series reveals how this daring and seemingly impossible expedition not only unlocked the mysteries of world geography, but also left an indelible mark on the historical narrative. Unknowingly, Elcano and Magellan shaped the course of history by courageously confirming the roundness of the Earth, challenging the dogma of the time and opening up new routes into the unknown.

CHARACTERS

Rodrigo Santoro plays Fernando de Magallanes, the celebrated 16th century navigator and explorer, renowned for leading the first expedition to circumnavigate the globe. Born in Sabrosa, Portugal, around 1480, Magallanes served the Spanish crown and undertook his historic voyage in 1519, with the backing of Charles I of Spain. Although he did not complete the voyage due to his death in battle in the Philippines in 1521, his legacy lives on as one of the pioneers of maritime exploration and his contribution to the knowledge of the world was invaluable.

Álvaro Morte brings to life Juan Sebastián Elcano, a 16th century Basque sailor; remembered as the navigator who completed the first round-the-world voyage by ship. After the death of Ferdinand Magellan, Elcano took command of the expedition and led the ship Victoria back to Spain, completing the historic voyage. His courage and determination marked a milestone in maritime exploration and his legacy lives on in the history of navigation.
