El robo del Códice
EL ROBO DEL CÓDICE
DOCUMENTARY SERIES - 3 x 50' - True Crime
On July 7, 2011, the world dawns with an unusual scandal: the Codex Calixtinus of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela has disappeared. It was a 12th century manuscript, considered the first guide for pilgrims, and a priceless jewel.
The theft is international news and the Historical Heritage Brigade of Madrid travels to Santiago to investigate. There are no fingerprints and no door has been forced. The first hypotheses suggest a theft by order for an international sale or Islamic terrorism, but they are soon discarded.
At that moment, a Berlanguian investigation began, marked by media interest, the secrecy of the Church and all kinds of false accusations. Finally, Manuel Fernández Castiñeiras, who had been the temple's electrician for 25 years, was identified. How and why would an electrician steal one of the greatest works of sacred art?
After months of bizarre interrogations, and just one year after the theft, on July 4, 2012, the investigators find the Codex and two million euros in cash.
