Dieciocho
Special mention at the Prix Europa awards and awarded for Best Cast in the National Section of the 11th Serielizados Fest (2024)
DIECIOCHO
YOUTH SERIES - 6 x 30' - Social drama
Cèlia and Moha meet in a kitchen. For Cèlia this job is a sentence: a judge has literally sentenced her to do community service hours. For Moha, this job is a prize that brings him closer to his goal of getting his papers and being able to stay and work in Spain legally. Although it may not seem like it, they have a lot in common and they will discover it as they both overcome their prejudices and begin to see themselves as they really are.
It is an intimate series that deals with the dreams, prejudices and loneliness of the young protagonists as they discover their first love.
DIECIOCHO deals with the lack of communication, the impossible love between Moha and Cèlia, the constant struggle of Sandra, the social educator; the prejudices of Matias, Cèlia's brother, and the unwillingness of their mother Ester to see. It is, above all, a story that tries to break down prejudices about immigration.
The series, shot in Spanish, Valencian and Arabic, has already received a special mention in the category of best video fiction miniseries at the Prix Europa, the prestigious awards given by the European Parliament, and a prize for best cast at the Serielizados Fest. It has also been a finalist at the Prix Italia and at the La Rochelle Fiction Festival (France), where it was the only Spanish series to compete in the European Section.
CHARACTERS:
MOHA. Maghrebi boy a little shy and very responsible. His objective is to obtain the papers and the residence to be able to work, since he fled from a very precarious situation in Morocco. His family is still there and he misses them very much. He tries very hard in the kitchen and would like to become a cook. Although he has Ayoub, his roommate at the center for foster children, and Sandra, the social worker who helps him, Moha feels lonely and excluded most of the time. This will change when he meets Cèlia, with whom he will fall in love for the first time; although, progressively, he will become more aware that they are part of two very different worlds and that it will not be easy to be together.
CÈLIA. A somewhat insecure neighborhood girl with a sharp look and intelligent. She is at a critical moment in her life: while everyone around her seems to be clear about her future, she is afraid of not being enough, of not fitting in, of being left behind. She is also afraid of her brother Matías, with his unstable temperament, and she feels distanced from her mother Esther, who has always been much more attentive to Matías. Cèlia lied to the judge to reduce her brother's sentence, and so she has been sentenced to community service hours. Cèlia would like to go far away, to the Canary Islands, to study marine sciences. She loves the sea. In the kitchen she will fall in love with Moha, the only person with whom she will connect and with whom, despite her initial reluctance, she has a lot in common.
