PRIME TIME SERIES - 6 x 60' - Drama/Police Drama
Clara is the only woman in an all-male environment, largely hostile, where the female presence is a novelty not always welcome. Tradition, macho behaviors, weigh too much on a daily basis. A woman in the police station is almost an insult.
Despite the initial obstacles, Clara feels proud and useful in her police work. But what she has learned at the academy is a far cry from the ruthless reality she finds in a neighborhood where drugs are becoming rampant.
In parallel to Clara's first steps as a law enforcement officer, the lives of Ana (an upper-class widow unable to overcome the death of her husband) and Berta (her assistant, a working-class woman) are conditioned by a terrible drama: Gema, Ana's daughter, is addicted to heroin. Ana will do whatever it takes to save her only daughter from this addiction. Meanwhile, Berta discovers that her husband is a gambling addict and has just lost the cab he works with in a poker game.
Meanwhile, Clara's daily work to assert herself at the police station leads her to investigate on her own the mysterious disappearance of Gema. In the process, she will glimpse unclear behaviors among her colleagues, although she does not suspect anything about the powerful Inspector Romero, an iconic and implacable policeman who will soon become her mentor.
Little by little, this initial “infiltration” leads Clara to discover that heroin, increasingly present on the streets, is distributed from a very well known place in the neighborhood, the Boston Pub, and little by little she will discover that some of her colleagues are profiting from it. Clara lacks evidence, but behind the apparent normality she glimpses something shady that she tries to unravel in solitude, with no one to trust inside the police station. Her suspicions are triggered when, in the investigation of the murder of a “drug dealer”, she finds indications that one of her colleagues, Urbieta, may be implicated in his death. The police station wraps the crime in a conspiracy of silence that Clara will not tolerate, and chooses to denounce: she can be a whistleblower; never an accomplice.
Clara doubts all her colleagues. She does not even trust Flores, a young inspector with whom she has begun an unstable romantic relationship. She decides to investigate on her own, alone, pulling a thread that begins to unravel the skein of a complex drug trafficking network that ends up in her own police station.
Clara embarks on a double life that will put her personal relationships and ideals at risk. Thanks to the help of Ana and Berta, who are as lost as she is in their own struggles, she will be able to delve deeper into a network that is filling the neighborhood with death and desolation. But for Clara it is her duty. Because as she learned from her mentor, Inspector Romero, “to clean the streets you first have to get your hands dirty”. Much more than she imagines.
CHARACTERS:
CLARA MONTESINOS (Laia Manzanares) 21 years old - The main character. Police officer.
Her dream: to be a cop. Her goal: to do justice. Pioneer for opening the way in a field of work that, until then, was forbidden to women.
Clara is an enthusiastic young woman, idealistic and eager to fulfill the dream of her life: to become a law enforcement officer. Somehow, she wants to wash the image of her dead father, a policeman removed from the force in the past for an unjust accusation of corruption. Her absolute dedication to her job can handle anything, even a macho and distrustful work environment.
She is a PASSIONATE, DEDICATED, APPLICATED and VOLUNTEER woman who leaves her skin in every act. She also stands out for her STUBBORNNESS, sometimes exaggerated by her rigid beliefs and for not leaving the limits, not only legal, but also moral. He will have to learn a lot to survive in an urban jungle like Madrid in 1979. She must learn to take daily beatings and to cope with loneliness in her small apartment in Vallecas. Clara will thus face her own contradictions and “swallow” some irregularities in order to achieve greater goals. And she will have to realize that she cannot do it all alone. She needs help. And a lot of it. It is the journey of an INNOCENT YOUNG WOMAN who will end up asking herself if the end justifies the means, and will become the cop she never thought she would become.
Clara
ANA VILLACASTÍN (Silvia Abascal) 50 years old - Pioneer in the fight against drugs in Madrid.
Driven by guilt. Her goal, to save her addicted daughter Gema. Ana is an upper class woman. Daughter of the regime, she is ADINERATE, BELIEVANT and CONSERVATIVE. She has a teenage daughter, Gema, to whom she has given everything and whom she finds it increasingly difficult to understand. Her life changes after the death of her husband. Suddenly an uncertain world opens up before her, a situation she does not know how to manage. In the face of sadness and bewilderment, Ana has hardly any friends to turn to. Her world began and ended with her husband, now absent. She is so PRIDEFUL that she does not recognize her mistakes, and this way of thinking leads to confrontations with her daughter.
Ana
Gema (Carla Campra), on the other hand, is a young woman of her time: modern, hedonistic, uninhibited... a world and a way of being that Ana does not understand. Enclosed in herself and in her own pain, Ana does not perceive that Gema has fallen into heroin. When Ana discovers the magnitude of the problem it is too late, and a terrible feeling of GUILT comes over her for not having known how to be there. She will be forced to react and learn TO BE THAT MOTHER she never was. Whatever it takes. Whatever she loses.
Gema
BERTA LANCHO (Marta Poveda) 40 years old - Assistant in Ana's apartment.
A character driven by rage. Her goal, to FREE herself from a hostile marriage. Berta is an ordinary working woman, SUBMISSIVE and OBEDIENT WIFE who is not able to raise her voice. Although her husband Pepe adores her, his gambling addiction makes him an abuser.
Berta has always been at someone's service, cleaning up other people's miseries. With Ana she never crosses the line between mistress and servant, while she protects and covers up for Gema. Her complicity leads to an unfair dismissal, accused of theft. For the first time in her life, Berta faces her destiny and discovers in herself a person she did not even intuit, a pioneer in all aspects: the woman who drives a cab without a license, the one who confronts a husband who begins to mistreat her in a world still without divorce and the one who stands up to the neighborhood drug dealer.
Berta
ROMERO (Luis Callejo) 50 years old - Chief Inspector at the Vallecas police station.
His fame and prestige as an EFFECTIVE POLICE officer commands respect and admiration. He is A REFERENCE for any police officer. A PERSON OF CONTRAST, the notches on the butt of his revolver do not prevent him from differentiating himself from the rest of the agents due to his fondness for philosophy and his reflective character.
He firmly commands the police station with one premise: “THE END JUSTIFIES THE MEANS”. Seeing the ugly face of the streets has made him the leader of a team that he considers family and to which he transmits his ethics with the firm pulse of the one who does not marry anyone. Romero takes clara under his wing. He acts as “father and mentor”; he teaches him the “dark springs” of police work. Despite questioning his methods, Clara's admiration for Romero becomes unconditional.
Romero
URBIETA (Nacho Fresneda) 42 years old - First Inspector of the Vallecas police station.
Veteran inspector of the southeast police station. He knows the street well and the street knows him very well: EXTORTION, beatings, commissions for looking the other way... Urbieta has long since decided that the police owe him one and he knows how to collect that debt. For months he has formed a lucrative partnership with Rufo, a local businessman and the main drug distributor in the neighborhood. The IMPUNITY with which he has been operating lately raises Clara's suspicions. Is he acting alone or is there someone involved above him giving him cover? Urbieta does not feel particularly threatened by Clara. He despises her. For him, a policewoman is a joke of democracy. Just another one. He will soon realize how much he is wrong.
