Chanel wins Benidorm Fest Grand Final: She will represent Spain at Eurovision 2022

Chanel will take 'SloMo' to the 66th Eurovision Song Contest to take place in Turin (Italy), after winning the Benidorm Fest 2022, the Spanish National Selection. She nailed her performance, including a hypnotic and powerful choreography, of 'SloMo', a latin and urban influenced dance pop track with a message of empowerment and self-confidence. The tune has been written by Leroy Sánchez, Keith Harris, Ibere Fortes, Maggie Szabos and Arjen Thonen.
Rayden, Tanxugueiras, Varry Brava, Rigoberta Bandini, Xeinn, Gonzalo Hermida, Blanca Paloma and Chanel took part in the Grand Final of Benidorm Fest to win the ticket to Turin. It was an exciting show, with no clear winner until the final round. Chanel was awarded with 96 points: 51 expert jury points, 25 points from the demoscopic jury and 20 points from televoting. She was awarded with the Bronze Microphone by Blas Cantó who represented Spain at Eurovision 2021.
Finishing in second place was Rigoberta Bandini with her 'Ay Mamá', scoring 91 points; while the Galician band Tanxugueiras amassed a total of 90 points with ‘Terra' placing third. Rayden (67 points), Blanca Paloma (61), Varry Brava (55), Xeinn (45) and Gonzalo Hermida (35) complete the final ranking.
Inés Hernad, Maxim Huerta and Alaska were the hosts of this big musical show broadcasted live around the world by RTVE (La 1, Canal Internacional and RTVE Play). The event has led the social conversation.
"Eurovision smells like Chanel"
The Spanish singer of Cuban origin, who was happy and "in shock" as soon as she realized about her victory, thanked all the people who voted for her and made a promise: "I promise to do my best to come back with the first place in Eurovision". She dedicated the award to her family and friends and to Leroy Sánchez, co-author of the song.
"I was in shock, I couldn't believe it", she said about the moment when she heard her name and became the Spanish representative at Eurovision. "It was like a dream, I was only an spectator from the outside".
“This victory means a lot. Not only because we have been working hard for many months, but also because I have been fighting for this opportunity for many years. And it has been a dream to share this stage with all these artists. To be honest, I still can't believe it”, Chanel added.
"We are going to win! I'm going to give my all on stage to bring Eurovision to Spain", she promised, while also thanking all her colleagues for their support. "My colleagues have congratulated me and given me a lot of love and support", she concluded.
Results
The winner of Benidorm Fest has been chosen by a 50% professional jury (Natalia Calderón, singer, actress, composer, singing teacher, theatre producer and vocal coach; Miryam Benedicted, choreographer of several TV programmes and theatre projects; and Estefanía García, singer and conductor of the RTVE Concert Orchestra and Choir; Marvin Dietmann, creative and artistic director; and Félix Bergsson, head of the Icelandic delegation in Eurovision) and 50% by the audience (televote 25% + demoscopic jury 25%).

Saturday's Grand Final featured some great guest artists: the Eurovision Spanish star Pastora Soler, who opened the show with an emotional version of 'Quédate conmigo' (her Eurovision Song Contest 2012 entry). She also performed 'Que hablen de mí’ while Nía & Nyno Vargas performed their latest collaboration, 'Me muero de risa'.
